I'm going to cover the benefits of having a 360° investment strategy mindset - investing time, money, attention, resources, good intentions, and your people to reach your goals. Being of service to your business and to your teams and leading with that perspective and letting that pour back into you. Taking a step back to invest across these areas to achieve the results you want.
Whatever your goal is—securing budget, scaling operations, landing major clients or deals—it starts with how you invest.
Take the time needed. This will naturally quantify to money because time is money, so understand what investing time truly means. Don't shortcut to the solution—you'll just end up with a subpar solution, if you can call it that. I find that when things are rushed, you end up spending the time on the mid and back end anyway.
Be willing to invest money. You want financial wealth? A multi-million-dollar business? Top talent? The only way you'll get there without investing the money is investing your OWN time. If you want or need specialized expertise to help you build, pay for that. Think in outcomes. If you need it and you have it, then spend it. Consider what you have to spend. Consider the long and short-term benefits. Will you feel better, lighter, at peace? Contented? Will you be paid back over time, and when? Is that more important than the non-monetary benefits?
In addition to money, consider what resources you're willing to invest. Are you willing to upskill to achieve your goals? If you have a team and assets, are you willing to reallocate them to prioritize your objective? And if it's a team, are you willing to invest in building the strategy and transition plan and implementing it so that you don't disrupt your team's flow? So they can work productively? This still ties to money in many ways.
Don't demand the world and then not give it attention. If you summon, then expect that what you manifest and work for will require your attention. During meetings and offline, ensure you are giving proper attention so that you can receive back in. Ensure you are thinking with a discovery mindset. Review content, programs, business infrastructure, and business model with attention to detail.
Invest good intentions into your mission. Ask yourself why you are doing this thing. What is your intention? What's driving this decision? Is it self-centered? Does that make sense and weigh out? Is it more holistic and inclusive of those you are collaborating with? Ensure whatever it is, that you are well-intended. Review content, processes, and team performance with good intentions. Who will see this and what do I want them to experience, see, know, and understand? Will this review or content mislead or cause them harm? Is this serving them or serving only me? In what ways?
You want high-quality work? Pay for high quality. Make room for your workers to be high quality. Give them the time and dedication needed to do good work. Make room for the discovery that will naturally come from top talent. Don't be selfish, greedy, and close-minded. Understand that sometimes, you're going to have to tell your clients "Let me get back to you on that" so you can regroup with your people first to understand what's possible. Always, you should ask yourself, “Am I setting my team up for success?” When you don't do these things, that's how you lose your people—whether they burnout, resign, quit, or "quietly quit" as they say.
Consider what the stakes of not investing with a 360° perspective will be. Then ask yourself: are you willing to chance it? Own your investments as your own pouring into not only yourself but your ecosystem and legacy. Watch the incremental and compounding dividends pour in. Give and take. That's the art of business. But being deeply invested and in service is what makes a business successful.
If you're reading this and feeling overwhelmed, start with one pillar. Pick the investment area where you're most deficient right now. Is it time? Are you rushing everything? Start there. Is it people? Invest in your team first. You don't have to transform everything overnight—but you do have to start somewhere with intentionality.
Ask Yourself:
Where am I shortcutting right now?
What investment am I avoiding because it feels expensive or slow?
What would change if I gave that area the time, money, attention, resources, intention, and people it actually needs?
Stay tuned for more perspectives and insights like this. Thank you for reading.
